According to a survey conducted by CAS, the number of Lebanese citizens was estimated in June 1997 at 3,700,000.

The population is composed of Christians, Muslims, and minorities and is Arabic speaking, with French and English being widely used.

The main cities are Beirut, the capital, Tripoli, Sidon, Jounieh, Zahle and Tyre. Approximately 32 per cent. of the population lives in Beirut and its suburbs.
